A PPILOW survey on biosecurity measures in EU organic, extensive and small-scale pig and poultry farms!

Veterinarians Without Borders, Thünen Institute and Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, are launching a study in seven European countries involved in the H2020 PPILOW project (France, Germany, Denmark, Romania, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy). An online questionnaire will be used to collect data on farmers, veterinarians and advisors’ perceptions and practices related to biosecurity in organic, extensive and small-scale livestock farms. The aim of the study is to shed light on biosecurity knowledge, perception and practices within targeted farming systems deemed to pay special attention to animal welfare and, at the same time, to be at higher risk for disease exposure, i.e. Avian Influenza and African Swine Fever. The data will be used to inform policy discussion at the European and national levels on coherent and balanced animal health and welfare goals in organic, extensive and small-scale livestock farms.

The research will be carried out with the collaboration of the Department of Political Science, Law, and International Studies  (SPGI) of the University of Padua.

Research results will be presented during the closing conference of the PPILOW project on June 11th -12th 2024 in Brussels.

Deadline: 7 June 2024.
