6.2 – Early-life management for resilience

Early life management of organic broilers may have impacts on their health and welfare thereafter, especially on broiler resilience, which is its ability to recover for perturbations in later life. In PPILOW, changes in incubation temperature were tested in organic facilities to improve broiler resilience (6.2.1 – Incubation temperature for improving resilience), especially towards changes in ambient temperature. On-farm hatching (6.2.2) was tested on farm to limit perturbations in the day-old chick at the hatchery, during transport and setting on farm in view of improving their health and welfare.
