7.2.3 – Pig assessment tool

Practices related to pigs were economically evaluated in the Task 7.2.3 “Pig assessment tool” by LUKE with the support of INRAE, ACTA (IFIP) and Thünen.

This sub-task aims to assess the economic profitability of animal welfare improving measures in low input outdoor and organic pig production at the farm level. Besides that, the added economic value to the pig production system will be considered (e.g. using of the meat of entire pigs, the selection of sows for low piglet mortality, valuation of non- castrated pig meat). A business model will be developed to show the impact on the overall production chain.
